Installation

Excel Add-in is built using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and therefore only runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems with the .NET framework installed. It is an VSTO Add-in for Excel, which requires the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime.

Software Requirements

The following software is required to run Excel Add-in:

  • Microsoft Office Excel 2013 or 2016

  • .NET 4.6.2 (installed by system:inmation setup)

  • Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (installed by system:inmation setup)

The following Windows Versions are supported:

  • Windows 7

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows 8.1

  • Windows 2012 R2

  • Windows 10

  • Windows 2016

system:inmation Setup

Excel Add-in is installed as part of the DataStudio installation, which is installed as part of the full setup (using the inmationSetup.exe installer). The installer will not install the system:inmation Excel Add-in unless Microsoft Excel is already installed on the machine. Setup will install the necessary prerequisites and Excel Add-in will automatically be available to all users on the machine.

Click-once installation

Excel Add-in can also be installed using the Click-once installer. To do this, double click the InExcelAddIn.vsto file found in the Program Files > inmation > ExcelAddIn directory. Installing this way means that the Excel Add-in will only be installed to the current user. It is important that all the software requirements mentioned above are met for the installation to work.

Office Security Settings

For the inExcel Add-in to function properly, the Macro security settings must be changed in the Excel settings. To do this, open Excel and go to File > Options > Trust Center and click on Trust Center Settings….

In Trust Center Settings, select "Macro Settings" from the sidebar and under "Developer Macro Settings", select the "Trust Access to the VBA project object model" checkbox. Click OK to close the dialog.

Add-in Settings

It may also be necessary to activate the inExcel Add-in in the Excel settings. Go to File > Options and choose Add-ins from the side bar:

If the system:inmation Excel Add-in appears in the “Inactive Add-in” list then it will need to be activated using the Add-In manager. Select “COM Add-ins” from the Manage drop down menu at the bottom of the options page and select Go.

In the COM Add-ins dialog that appears, select the “system:inmation Excel Addin” and click OK.
